I finished work near Negishi Station and had a final meeting. On the way back after the meeting, I stopped by this shop. I had passed by the shop several times before, it's a long-established senbei (rice cracker) shop. There were various types available, but I bought "sazare ishi". The size of each piece is small, but it has a firm texture and a satisfying crunch. It's not sweet, but has a nice salty flavor. If I have the opportunity to come back for work again, I would like to buy other sweets as well.

This is a famous rice cracker shop in Nezu. The traditional hand-made rice crackers and the nostalgic shop exterior are charming. It's a scenery that we want to preserve for a long time. The rice crackers have a simple and delicious taste of the past. They have a nice crunch and a distinct soy sauce flavor.

Established in 1915, Daikokuya is a nostalgic senbei (rice cracker) shop in Nezu known for its hand-made charcoal-grilled senbei. The shop exudes a vintage charm, with the smell of soy sauce wafting from the storefront. Using Kishu Binchotan charcoal, the grandparents still hand-make each senbei in the traditional way. The charcoal-grilled soy sauce senbei (10 pieces for 1300 yen) has a irresistible burnt aroma, while the nori seaweed senbei (10 pieces for 900 yen) features a crispy texture and rich soy sauce flavor. I always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in the area. I hope they continue to stay healthy and serve delicious senbei for years to come. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

It was like freshly baked rice crackers. An elderly couple was grilling them on a small net, and once I saw it, I felt like I had to buy them. 5 rice crackers for 750 yen, which was a bit surprising. I decided to buy them. When I opened the bag, there was a nice soy sauce smell. I could also smell the charcoal. When I tasted them, it had a unique handmade flavor that you can't quite describe. Maybe it's because of the unevenness from grilling over unstable charcoal heat. They were delicious. A bit pricey, but they make a good snack for a stroll in Yanaka. Thank you for the meal.

Located on the street near Negishi, this shop has a wonderfully retro exterior. When you peek inside, you'll see a cat sitting there keeping watch. If you call out, an old lady will come out, creating a heartwarming atmosphere. The senbei (rice crackers) they offer are top-notch, with a satisfying texture and flavor that shows their long-standing expertise.

On Saturday afternoon, I had tea at Cafe Court on Yanaka Kite Street before heading to my lesson. While waiting at the traffic lights at the intersection near Daikokuya, I noticed a rice cracker called "Tohnan" and decided to buy it. When I got home, I enjoyed it with a beer. These small rice crackers are so addictive, you can't stop at just one! I wonder if there is a "Kyoto Woman" to go with "Tohnan"? Thank you for the delicious snack.

This is a long-established senbei (rice cracker) shop founded in 1915 in Tani-naka. They use carefully selected rice and authentic soy sauce, and hand-bake each senbei using Kishu Binchotan charcoal. The origin is said to be from Soka Senbei. The shop is located about 3-4 minutes from Nezu Station. From the Nezu Ichome intersection, head straight on Gondo-dori, and you will find the shop on the left corner of the intersection, in a traditional Japanese house. I visited in the afternoon. They have a variety of senbei, from round hard-baked senbei to arare (bite-sized senbei). The flagship product is the large-sized hard-baked senbei (soy sauce), and they also offer 5 regular sizes (soy sauce, sesame, seaweed, mustard, shrimp). The large size comes in simple packaging (300 yen) or a pack of 2 (600 yen), while the regular size is a pack of 5 (700 yen). The shelf life, except for the simple packaging, is about 2 months (prices include tax). I bought the following items (prices include tax). Hand-baked senbei (1 piece, 300 yen) comes in a convenient plastic bag for eating on the go. It is sold in a glass container with a lid, and sometimes it sells out. The diameter is about 12.1-12.5 cm. I was impressed by the size when I held it in my hand! You can either take a bite with a part of it out of the bag or break it inside the bag. I broke it inside the bag and enjoyed it! It has a crispy texture, not too thin or too thick, with a savory soy sauce flavor and saltiness from the charcoal grilling. Despite its appearance, it feels light, and I finished it quickly. The shelf life of the simple packaging is about 1 week. For souvenirs, the pack of 2 (600 yen) with longer shelf life is a safe choice. They are fragile, so be careful when carrying them around. Sesame senbei (5 pieces, 700 yen) is a hard-baked senbei with black sesame seeds. Each senbei has a different level of puffiness, showing the hand-baked finish. The savory flavor of black sesame lingers on the palate. It was a delightful encounter with this senbei shop that caught my eye with its traditional appearance. The taste was as expected, delicious.

I stopped by a rice cracker shop that caught my attention. Along the street leading from Nezu to Uguisudani, there is an old building where an old lady seems to be hand-baking rice crackers. The storefront displays a variety of rice crackers. Charcoal-baked (5 pieces) for 700 yen, and seaweed-flavored (10 pieces) for 800 yen. Unlike the teeth-breaking rice crackers you find around Asakusa, these have a nice firmness and crispiness, with a homemade feel where the soy sauce has soaked in. Each piece has a unique taste. I usually don't like rice crackers, but these are surprisingly delicious.

Whenever I go to Negishi, I always buy from this shop. It's a must-visit for rice cracker lovers. The traditional atmosphere is charming. They are particular about hand-baking in the old-fashioned way. The rice crackers are super crunchy and firm! The texture and taste are excellent. The simple soy sauce flavor is the best! I always buy the classic rice crackers and the sesame rice crackers.

While exploring the streets of Negishi, I stumbled upon an old-fashioned senbei shop with a nostalgic charm. The wooden display shelves exuded a Showa-era vibe! They were hand-baking senbei at the back using Kishu Binchotan charcoal. The sign read "Kishu Binchotan Hand-baked Senbei." This is bound to be delicious! I bought soy sauce and sesame flavors. The soy sauce senbei... The round, slightly thin shape is beautiful. The color with a hint of charred marks is authentic. The crispy texture is satisfying! The simple taste of soy sauce stands out. There are no unnecessary flavors! This is the true taste of senbei! You won't get tired of eating it no matter how many pieces you have! Delicious!! The taste is exactly as I expected from the appearance, and I'm impressed. The sesame senbei... The base taste is still delicious as ever. However, I feel like there's a bit less sesame in it, which is disappointing. This is truly THE senbei, a masterpiece. I highly recommend it to those who don't know the true taste of senbei.

In January 2020, there are still traditional senbei (rice cracker) shops in the Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi area, and one of them is "Mukashi Senbei Daikokuya." Their specialty is handmade senbei made using Kishu Binchotan charcoal. You can actually see them baking the senbei over charcoal fire behind the counter. With not much luggage on hand that day, I was in the mood for some senbei, so I decided to buy some. They offer a variety of flavors, including sesame, seaweed, and spicy options. I purchased the following: - Charcoal-fired Ooban (600 yen) - Charcoal-fired Sesame (700 yen) The senbei had a firm texture and a simple, rustic flavor. It felt like a long time since I had eaten handmade senbei. Being able to still enjoy such traditional snacks is one of the charms of Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi. By the way, many people just take photos of the senbei being baked over charcoal without buying any. It's not that expensive, so let's support the shop by making a purchase. Thank you for the meal.

I walked from Ueno to Nezu and there are many traditional rice cracker shops around here. One of the popular choices is the soy sauce rice cracker, a simple and crispy snack with a nice soy sauce flavor. It's a classic and straightforward option, perfect for souvenirs.

I found a shop while taking a walk. The shop has a charming atmosphere! In the back of the shop, they were baking rice crackers. They were flipping the rice crackers quickly, over and over again. They were flipping them back and forth multiple times. I was intrigued by the rice crackers wrapped in seaweed, so I bought some. When I got home and tried them, they were quite crunchy. The soy sauce flavor and the seaweed's ocean taste complemented each other well. Once you start eating them, you can't stop. Thank you for the meal. Can I visit again?

I love hand-baked senbei (rice crackers) made with charcoal fire. Since the closure of Kanda-ya in Nagareyama due to a lack of successors, I had trouble finding senbei that suited my taste until I came across Jizou-ya in Kagurazaka. While walking in Yanaka, I found a senbei shop called Daikokuya and decided to try their charcoal fire-baked soy sauce senbei (5 pieces for 650 yen). It was not as thin and firm as Jizou-ya's sun-dried senbei, but it had a good texture with a solid firmness. The soy sauce flavor was not heavily infused, perhaps because the soy sauce was not applied while the senbei was still hot. It may not reach the level of Jizou-ya, but it falls into the category of flavors that I like.

Today's food walk in Nekoya included a visit to a rice cracker shop where I purchased the Black Bean Daimyo for 400 yen. The roasted scent of the black beans pairs perfectly with the rice cracker and tastes delicious. Many dining establishments in this area have changed in the past 2-3 years, but I hope this one continues to thrive for a long time.

At the corner of Negishi, there is an old-fashioned store selling senbei (rice crackers) just like in the old days♪ They bake senbei right in front of the store. The store, called Daikokuya, has wooden shelves with tiles on the base, which is a rare sight nowadays. The products are displayed beautifully and neatly. They sell Edo-style senbei with nori (seaweed) for 700 yen per bag. The nori-wrapped senbei looks very appetizing. The senbei here are firm and crunchy, more like "bolli" than "poli." It's a hit with the people of Edo!

In the area of Yanaka, there are several shops that sell delicious hand-baked senbei (rice crackers). This shop is a well-established store that has been around for over 100 years. Senbei may seem simple, but the aroma of the hand-baked ones is irresistible. I couldn't stop at just one piece! I bought some for myself: the "Zarame" senbei, the charcoal-grilled senbei, and the matcha and white senbei. The crispy texture, sweetness, and soy sauce flavor are all perfect. My favorite is the "Zarame" senbei. I'm hooked on this deliciousness. I want to visit again soon!

After having udon in Negishi, I went to this place nearby. It's a long-established store that has been around for over 100 years. It has a unique aura that stands out from its surroundings, so you can recognize it from afar (laughs). In the center of the store, they were hand-baking senbei. I decided to buy charcoal-grilled senbei and seaweed senbei. The charcoal-grilled senbei, a large size with 2 pieces, costs a little over 500 yen. As soon as I opened the bag, a wonderful soy sauce aroma wafted out. The senbei had a crispy texture, and when it touched my tongue, I could taste the soy sauce, but as I continued to eat, it had just the right amount of saltiness. The puffed-up parts had a thin thickness, allowing me to enjoy the rich soy sauce flavor and bitterness. Throughout, I could clearly taste the flavor of the rice in the senbei. The soy sauce flavor was not overpowering, so it gradually faded in my mouth, transitioning to the taste of the rice. As for the seaweed senbei, I bought it as a souvenir for my friend, so I didn't take a photo of it, but the seaweed was kneaded into the dough itself, giving the senbei a seaweed flavor no matter where you bite. Thank you for the meal.

Whenever I come, Nezu has a good atmosphere. For some reason, I feel like I'm in the early Showa era. It's about a 5-minute walk from the station. I heard from a friend who loves senbei that there is a really delicious senbei shop, so I visited. There are several types lined up in the old-fashioned showcase. And in the center of the shop, the owner was carefully grilling each piece over charcoal. Since it was my first time, I bought two basic senbei. 1. Charcoal-grilled soy sauce flavor, 5 pieces for 650 yen. The soy sauce seasoning is just right, crispy and delicious. 2. Charcoal-grilled sesame flavor, 5 pieces for 650 yen. The sesame flavor combined with soy sauce is also delicious. They also have shrimp, seaweed, and chili flavors. Each comes in 5 pieces, 10 pieces, large pieces, and special shapes like a fist or raft. They also offer gift boxes. It's a great thing to continue for 100 years. I hope they keep up the tradition and I want to keep enjoying it.

When you go towards Ueno from the Azuma intersection in Negishi, you can see old shops that look charming from the outside. The traditional windows are filled with senbei. This is the style of a senbei shop, isn't it? It's nice to see that this is still around. Even though it's a shop I've been going to for a long time, I always feel nostalgic each time. And just by looking at the storefront, you can tell that the senbei here must be delicious. When you bite into the crispy texture, the savory soy sauce flavor spreads throughout your mouth. The simple and timeless deliciousness is loved by everyone. I hope they continue to preserve this hand-baked style for a long time.
