On a chilly day with light rain, I had lunch at Peeper and ordered the meat sauce with garlic toast. First, the garlic toast arrived. It looked flashy and caught my eye, but the taste was surprising. The topping on top, which looked like a white sauce, was sweet! I thought it would be a cheesy bechamel-like filling, but when I took a bite, it was sweet! It was unexpected. The baguette was soft, almost as soft as a bread with many ear-like parts shaped like a baguette. The garlic flavor was strong, and there was plenty of butter, but it was quite different from what I imagined when I heard garlic toast. On the other hand, the meat sauce pasta was very ordinary. The pasta was dry, cooked al dente. The draining was a bit lacking, but overall, it was delicious. The meat sauce was a light tomato sauce with meat, and it was good but honestly quite ordinary. It would be nice if they provided a knife with the oily garlic toast, as just one paper napkin felt inadequate. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to try the pasta as well, so I revisited the restaurant after 7 months. As expected, the pasta was outstanding. And... wait, a garlic toast that looks like a chimney! I am very curious about this. Located 230m north of Ichikashi Gakuen Station on the Seibu Tama Lake Line, head north on the Gakuen 1st Street shopping street, go down the gentle slope with the sign of Gakuen Slope Shopping District, turn right at the road where the shops end, and it's on the first floor of an apartment on the right side in the residential area. It is also a 10-minute walk from Ome Gakuen Station on the Tama Lake Line and a 15-minute walk from Shin-Kodaira Station on the JR Musashino Line. There are two coin parking lots about 100m ahead. The entrance area with stacked stones entwined with ivy looks nice. The vibrant blue tent and brown sign, along with the Italian flag, add a nice touch. The interior is classic, with a semi-open kitchen and a counter with four seats on the left side, three 2-seater tables on the entrance side, two 6-seater sofa booth seats in the purple color which gives a Showa era vibe. There are two more tables in the back. For lunch, there are 3 types of pasta, 2 types of panini, and dry curry. Since I had the panini last time, I chose the pasta I was looking forward to today. Wait! The garlic toast that looks like a chimney, I couldn't help but be curious about it. I reluctantly added it, prepared to leave some uneaten. ■ Chimney-like Garlic Toast 300 ■ Japanese-style Pasta with Takana, Mushrooms, and Bacon 900 Soft baguette garlic toast with a slightly sweet mushroom cream topped like smoke on top, indeed standing tall like a chimney, with a topping that resembles smoke at the top. A slightly sweet bread with a subtle garlic flavor, yes, this is delicious! However, I sadly had to give up halfway. This seems like something to share with two people. The exterior is covered with ivy, and when you open the glass door, you can see deep inside the store. On the left is a counter with four seats for alcoholic beverages, and right after entering, there are three round tables for two people. Behind that is a sofa table for six people, and further back, there is a wooden table for four people, making it a good structure that can be used according to the number of people. Soft light comes in through the glass door and window. In the middle of the three tables for two people, there is an acrylic board placed in the center, with spacing between them. There is also an acrylic board between the counter seats and the kitchen, and the cash register is protected by a vinyl curtain for infection prevention. For lunch, they offer pasta, panini, and dry curry. I chose the Sausage and Pizza Sauce Panini for 950 yen. It comes with iced coffee. A green salad with lettuce, cucumber, onion, tomato, and parsley, and a panini cut into four pieces are served on one plate, looking delicious. When I tasted it, the crispy panini with a nice accent of pizza sauce was really good. The sautéed onions added a change in flavor. I was intrigued by the "chimney-like garlic toast" on the menu. I will try that next time! This is a shop located a little further back from the Ichigakuen Kitaguchi shopping street. The exterior of the shop suggests that it has been in business for quite a long time. Although I felt a bit hesitant to approach it, as it seemed intimidating, I noticed that it was open even during late lunch hours on weekdays, so I decided to visit. Welcomed by a nostalgic cowbell, I entered the shop and was surprised by its classical and calm atmosphere. A female staff member guided me to a table at the back of the shop. The interior had 2 tables for 2 people, 2 sofa tables for 4-6 people, 2 tables for 4 people, and a counter with 5 seats, totaling around 27 seats. The lunch pasta menu offered 3 options: tomato sauce, salt flavor, and Japanese-style. All served with salad and coffee for 900 yen, which was a good deal. I ordered the chicken, bacon, and basil tomato sauce pasta (with salad and coffee). Shortly after ordering, I was served the iced coffee and salad that I had requested earlier. I refreshed my throat with the iced coffee and enjoyed the veggie-rich salad. The pasta was generously filled with ingredients and had a satisfying portion size. I liked the al dente texture of the thin noodles, and the chicken chunks, bacon, and rich basil tomato sauce were delicious. I finished the meal feeling full and satisfied. It was nice that they provided Parmesan cheese by default. The shop had a faint BGM playing, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The delicious pasta and cozy ambiance made me regret not visiting sooner. I realized once again that long-standing local shops are often excellent. I look forward to trying a different pasta dish next time. Thank you for the meal.

I used the restaurant on a weekday night in July 2015 for the first time. The restaurant is located about a 5-minute walk straight down the shopping street from the north exit of Ichigaya Gakuen Station, then turning right. I entered a little after 7 pm, and they asked if it was okay as they close at 8 pm. I was dining alone and planning to eat quickly, so the timing was fine for me. The restaurant allows smoking, but luckily there were no other customers, which was a relief. I wondered if it was okay for the restaurant to have no customers. I assume they get more customers during the daytime. I ordered the Bacon and Eggplant Tomato Spaghetti (950 yen including tax) which came with bread. The dish had a lot of eggplant, which was great. The pasta was cooked just before al dente, and it had finely chopped basil, garlic, and a few pieces of bell pepper. The tomato sauce was not too acidic, making it easy to eat. The portion size seemed to be over 150g of dry pasta, which was quite satisfying. Overall, it was a decent meal.

Located about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of the Seibu Tamako Line's Ichigakuin Station. The store is on the first floor of a building a little to the right as you walk down Gakuenzaka Shopping Street towards Kodaira City Hall. Upon entering the store, you will see the cash register on the left and the kitchen in the back. There are about 5 counter seats facing the kitchen, and neatly arranged table seats on the right. I arrived around noon and the store was quite crowded, so I tried to sit at the counter seats, but the staff kindly pointed out that there were two-person table seats available, so I sat there. It was nice to see that the lunch set, which includes salad and a drink, was only ¥900. I chose the "Shrimp and Cabbage Spaghetti with a hot coffee." While waiting for my meal, I drank cold water with ice in a cup. The salad was followed by the main dish, the spaghetti, which was delicious with the accent of small shrimp and cabbage. The seasoning was flavorful, and the thin noodles were cooked al dente, making it a tasty spaghetti dish. They also provided a cute container of what seemed like powdered cheese, so I sprinkled it on top. The final blend coffee was indeed satisfying, with a good aroma and bitterness. The ventilation was good, but it was a bit of a nuisance that the gentleman next to me was smoking. I wish they would make all seats non-smoking during lunch hours at this coffee shop.

There is a coin parking lot on a street one block north of the restaurant, so it is recommended to do some research beforehand as the area is narrow and has many one-way streets. The restaurant has an impressive Italian flag displayed outside. I had imagined a student-targeted cafe due to the location near Hitotsubashi Gakuen. Upon entering, seating down, I noticed there were no staff around. It seemed like the owner was running the place alone. I ordered a large portion of Carbonara and Garlic Toast, but unfortunately, the Garlic Toast was sold out. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes. The Carbonara had a rich cream sauce, slightly overcooked noodles, ham, and pepper flavors, and it was delicious. The portion size was not large, so even with the large serving, it felt a bit small for me. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. And it was priced at less than 1000 yen, so I think the cost performance is good.

Next to the quiet shopping street of Hitotsubashi Gakuen, there is a splendid Italian restaurant with a brick facade that can be intimidating to enter alone for the first time. However, they have a seat for solo diners, making subsequent visits more casual. I have been there many times now. The restaurant is run by a chef-like gentleman all by himself, with what seems to be his wife helping out during lunch. I find the balance between the taste and price at this restaurant to be good. It may seem expensive for Hitotsubashi Gakuen, but the taste makes up for it. Their carbonara is addictive. Enjoying it with a mini bottle of red wine feels like a little reward. My only complaint is that there are very few customers. It's worrying how few there are. I have never seen more than three sets of customers dining there at night. I worry. If they put more effort into menu photos or set menus, I believe they could attract more customers. This unnecessary worry lingers in my mind.
