Jean-Paul Hévin's Tokyo Midtown store was one of the participating restaurants in the GoToEat Tokyo campaign, so I went there to buy Valentine's chocolates for my husband... However, they only allowed dining in, and GoToEat vouchers couldn't be used for takeout! So... I ended up just buying chocolates for myself and leaving reluctantly (cries). Inside the showcase were beautifully sparkling chocolates and macarons... I wanted to try various things, but the prices were quite high for my budget... It was my first time purchasing, so when I asked the staff for their recommended menu, they introduced me to "Trois Oranges" and "Safil". Since I'm not particularly fond of orange chocolate, I purchased the latter. Safil - 378 yen: "Crispy feuilletine with almonds and hazelnuts coated in milk chocolate." I went outside and promptly enjoyed it on a bench in Midtown. It has a melting texture with almonds and nuts as accents, quite delicious. But as a commoner, I thought, "It's tasty but pricey... One piece doesn't really justify the cost honestly... Didn't reach the level of being impressed." So, what left an impression on me was not the taste but the service. Despite only buying (being able to buy) one measly piece, the staff kindly handed over the product, saying, "This is also a popular item among our staff." Truly top-notch customer service from a high-end store... I noticed there was even a line outside. Covid precautions? Seems like there's also entry restrictions in place.
