"Brother Tofu Kyoto Arashiyama (1 minute walk from Arashiyama Randen Station, 13 minutes walk from Saga Arashiyama Station). This time, I ordered the Red Spicy Mabo Tofu Set (1880 yen). The Red Spicy version is a authentic Sichuan-style Mabo Tofu with a kick, made with spicy Kyoto tofu, secret chili oil, and a unique blend of sauces. There's also a non-spicy White Numbing Yuzu Mabo Tofu Set (1880 yen) available. This one features Kyoto tofu, Kyoto-produced white miso, and the refreshing aroma of yuzu for a rich and non-spicy flavor. I decided to go with the spicy Red version because I really wanted some spicy Mabo Tofu! ✨
When the Mabo Tofu arrived, it came with various condiments, small side dishes, and a bowl of rice. It was beautifully presented and elegant. The condiments and side dishes included clockwise: egg yolk, red chili pepper and Sichuan pepper, cold chicken dish, yuzu, preserved mustard greens, secret chili oil, fried eggplant and pork belly, and cilantro. First, I tried the Mabo Tofu as it is, and it was not overly spicy, with a silky texture that paired wonderfully with the rice. The rice itself was fluffy and chewy, made with the 8th generation Gihei blend of rice. They offer free seconds and upsizing too! 🍚
After that, I added red chili pepper, Sichuan pepper, yuzu, and chili oil. It transformed into a slightly spicy Mabo Tofu with a hint of yuzu fragrance! They also provide extra red chili peppers at your table, so if you like it even spicier, feel free to add more! ✨
I love Mabo Tofu, so I'm delighted to have found this wonderful restaurant in Arashiyama. I'm curious about their shrimp Mabo Tofu and would like to try their dim sum set as well, so I definitely want to come back! 🍤 Thank you for the delicious meal! ✍️
The restaurant interior is bright, with counter seats by the window and table seats. I visited just before 3 PM on a weekend, and I was able to get in without waiting in line. Arashiyama tends to be very crowded during this season, so I recommend going slightly off-lunch hours. Reservations are possible via DM or by phone. . . .
