"Tempura Yamanoue Ginza - Special Tempura Bowl 'Gouraku'" has been a renowned traditional restaurant that has been in business since 1954, alongside the opening of the Yamanoue Hotel in Kanda Surugadai, Tokyo. It was the first tempura restaurant to open in a Tokyo hotel, preserving the standard of Edo-style tempura. Currently, its sister restaurants are located within Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, Roppongi Tokyo Midtown, and on the 13th floor of GINZA SIX.
The special tempura bowl "Gouraku" is unique to Ginza and Roppongi locations. We made a reservation and visited the Ginza location. The concept here is to enjoy the finest ingredients in the best possible way. They serve the special tempura bowl in a specially crafted large lacquerware bowl from the mountains of Ishikawa Prefecture, with rice, carefully selected seasonal ingredients, and a variety of items including 2 live prawns, 3 seafood items, 5 vegetables, red miso soup, and pickles.
As a starter, they serve tempura of prawn heads and dried young sardines. The prawns are already seasoned and can be enjoyed as they are – delicious! Soon after, the stars of the meal arrive. You can first savor the tempura ingredients with a touch of salt and then drizzle the dipping sauce over them. Today's seafood includes whiting, conger eel, and beltfish, while the vegetables comprise asparagus, lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, ginkgo nuts, and eggplant. Each ingredient is thick-cut, and the frying is exceptional, making them incredibly tasty. When combined with the tempura dipping sauce and rice, it's a heavenly combination. The red miso soup with clams and pickles are also top-notch. The overall experience, including the location, is excellent. It was a truly delicious meal. Thank you very much! 🌟
