"Takeout Support Series Part 4: Uzukino, the Proud Tofu and Yuba Kaiseki Restaurant in Kitasenju. While it's notoriously difficult to get a reservation at their main store, you can easily purchase tofu-based dishes and bento boxes made in their main kitchen at the Marui underground food court. Recently, due to COVID-19 prevention measures, the closing time has been moved to 7:00 PM, and around 6:30 PM, a last-minute discount battle begins.
On this day, while avoiding crowded places, I managed to grab ◇ Uzukino 9-variety platter (usually 1100 yen) ◇ Yuba Cheese Omelette (usually 600 yen) for a total of 1000 yen. It's quite a steal, isn't it? Instead of stopping for a drink on the way home, let's go straight back and have a home party.
The luxurious 9-variety platter consists of various dishes, all with a delicate and elegant flavor profile. Despite being nine varieties, multiple dishes are served in one section, so the satisfaction level is even higher. Among them, the standout was the combination of Namafu Tofu Fritter and Fu Manju. Somehow, tofu shops that produce yuba also seem to excel in wheat gluten products. The texture is firm, and the subtle grassy aroma makes these wheat gluten buns incredibly delicious. Honestly, I might prefer them to the ones I had in Kyoto at Fu Ka. This might just be my new favorite wheat gluten bun. I couldn't process any more information about them due to their outstanding quality on this visit, so I'll refrain from further comments for now. I'll definitely buy them separately next time.
The omelette is also elegant but rich in ingredients (the shredded potatoes are great) and loaded with cheese. In conclusion, Uzukino is amazing! However, I had previously rated it 3.5, but the two dishes on this day were absolutely outstanding. Considering I gave Fu Ka's wheat gluten bun a 3.8 rating... I don't know what to do with this anymore. Anyway, takeout was enjoyable. When COVID is over, I'd like to visit the main store with high expectations."
